These are conflict free and guilt free sparklies! The lab grown bright pink sapphires are prong mounted in 14k gold filled. I first listed these as gold earrings but those sold in the shop so I will make them with 14k/20 yellow gold filled now. I will just make these until I run out of these sapphires. They are also beautiful in sterling silver.
All of the metal is 14k yellow gold filled from reclaimed/recycled post consumer sources.
(Please allow about three weekdays to make these. The time is in tumblers to temper the gold after the heat from my torch softens it.) All of our stones are Fair Trade certified and ethically cut as well.
Pink sapphires, like all sapphires, are the birthstone for people born in September. They are also thought to bring special good fortune to Librans (those born between Sept. 23 and Oct. 24) and are, therefore, also a birthstone for October.
The meanings associated with pink sapphire are generally related to the warmth and cultural properties of the pinkish color. Pink sapphires, like the color pink, are associated in many cultures with romance, love and friendship. They can also signify balance (for the balanced combination of "white" and "red" pigmentation), innocence, forgiveness and insight into the subconscious.
Pink sapphire generates feelings of love, forgiveness, acceptance and release. This gentle stone provides strength in difficult situations.
This stone combines energies of the heart with a disciplined mind, creating strength in balance.
It is said that Pink Sapphire is a stone of passion that brings joyful play to any relationship.
Helps overcome shyness
Dissolves emotional blocks
Opens your life to love
Helps release the past and overcome past wounds
Pink Sapphire balances the Water and Fire Elements.
Corundum is the second hardest natural mineral known to science. The hardest mineral is diamond. The hardness of corundum can be partially attributed to the strong and short oxygen-aluminum bonds. These bonds pull the oxygen and aluminum atoms close together, making the crystal not only hard but also quite dense. Pink sapphires deepen in color as the quantity of chromium increases.
This perfect sapphire is created in a laboratory it has the same hardness (9 mohs) and specific gravity (approximately 4.0+ which is well above average for translucent minerals) as a natural sapphire.
Chemical composition : Al2O3
Crystal Structure : Hexagonal (trigonal); dipyramidal, barrel-shaped, tabloid-shaped
Purity : 99.99%
Refractive Index : 1.717
Density : 3.98-4.1 g/cm3
Hardness Mohs : 9
Manufacturing Method : Flame Fusion Growth
They look better than most natural and are eye clean, gem quality.
Even experienced gem dealers and professionals are often unable to differentiate between the Natural and Lab Created sapphires. The color is vibrant and there are no visible inclusions so the perfection of the stone and the deep pink color is what would make them think it must surely cost a king's ransom.
These are lovely stones.
There are first several kind of synthethic sapphires currently in the market from different methods: Flame fusion, flux grown and hydrothermal. After that you have sapphire imitations (like glass) or assembled gemstones (doublets...)
To identify a flame fusion it can be easy or very difficult (if the stone is clean): Typical inclusions are gas bubbles, curved color zoning,...
To identify flux grown gems its in general more complicated, you can have flux fingerprints, metallic platelets which are invisible to the eye and even the microscope outside a special solution.
To identify hydrothermal sapphire it can be also a little bit tricky but the chevron like or wave like growth zoning is usually diagnostic.
